Cedar Children’s Academy is Awarded its Advanced Thinking School Reaccreditation!

Cedar Children’s Academy is delighted to announce that we have been officially re-accredited as an Advanced Thinking School by the University of Exeter!

As part of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust, we take pride in the unique approach we take to education: we provide our children with the skills and tools they need to think in a variety of ways and become lifelong learners. The transferrable Thinking Tools that we teach our pupils are designed to prepare them for the range of scenarios, dilemmas and circumstances that they may face in later life as part of modern society.

The University of Exeter’s School of Education – which leads the way in research on Metacognition, Thinking Skills and Creativity – provides a framework for schools to become recognised Thinking Schools. We received our initial accreditation in 2018. The University has recently assessed evidence of our school’s teaching and learning practices, the quality of our curriculum and the impact it has on our pupils, and, as a result, rewarded us our reaccreditation.

At Cedar Children’s Academy, we are proud of the support and opportunities we provide our pupils. We are committed to providing a total education which helps our individual children develop as a whole. We were thrilled that the University of Exeter recognised these efforts in their report, stating that this focus “is a particularly strong aspect of school life at Cedar.” The report also identified our commitment to supporting pupils’ personal development, highlighting that “all pupils are encouraged to develop as articulate, critical, creative and reflective thinkers.”

“Our recent reaccreditation by the University of Exeter is an excellent achievement for our school, and a real testament to our staff’s commitment to providing the best possible education for our children. I am so proud to be the Headteacher of Cedar, and to support the growth and development of every one of our pupils and the way they think and learn,” said Miss McNally, our Headteacher.

Mrs Murphy, Director of Education for our Trust Hub said, “What an amazing achievement for Cedar Children’s Academy. It is testament to the teachers who have worked exceptionally hard embedding thinking into everyday school life, ensuring that our children are developing into lifelong learners and thinkers.”
