Year 3 have had a busy start to Term 6 with the launch of our topic Egyptians. Our term started with a trip back in time to 1922 to the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. We learnt all about Howard Carter’s discovery of the tomb and the treasures that were found. The children then had the opportunity to visit our very own Cedar tomb to experience what it would have been like for Howard Carter. The children loved exploring all the artefacts and walking through the tomb. We were excited to write our own diaries from the perspective of Howard carter discovering Tutankham’s tomb.
We also had a fantastic time during our Egyptian Day where the children had the opportunity to become archaeologists and dig for artefacts. They then were able to discuss and sketch what they had found. We also learnt about the Rosetta stone and how the Egyptians wrote using hieroglyphics, the children loved decoding hidden messages and making their own papyrus paper. The children loved becoming Embalmers and learning about the mumification process. They were able to apply this knew knowledge and mummify their own tomatoes.
