On Tuesday 3 February 2026 ninety Year 6 pupils from Cedar Children’s Academy set off for an exciting visit to the Houses of Parliament. Accompanied by staff and parent helpers, the children travelled by train to London Victoria before walking to Westminster.
Although the weather was wet throughout the day, the children remained enthusiastic and eager to learn. For many pupils it was their first time visiting the centre of UK democracy and the experience proved to be both memorable and inspiring.
The visit began with a guided tour of the House of Commons. The children were fascinated to see the famous green benches in person and to stand in areas they had previously only seen on television. The guides shared information about the building’s history, traditions and the important decisions made there.
After the tour the pupils took part in an interactive workshop that explored how laws are made and how Members of Parliament represent their communities. The session helped to bring their classroom learning to life and gave them a practical understanding of debate and decision making.
A highlight of the day was a visit from Lauren Edwards MP. She spent five minutes with each group, explaining her role and answering the children’s questions. Her insight and willingness to engage made a strong impression on the pupils.
Despite the rain the children described the trip as enjoyable, interesting and inspiring. Staff were proud of how engaged and curious they were throughout the day.
The visit offered a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of government and citizenship and it will no doubt remain a standout memory of their final year at Cedar Children’s Academy.
