Cedar Achieves Prestigious School Games Gold Mark Award For a Third Year Running

October 8, 2026 09:14am

We are delighted to announce that Cedar has been awarded theSchool Games Gold Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year, recognising our outstanding commitment to school sport, physical activity and competitive opportunities for pupils.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, which recognises schools that are committed to developing competitive sport and encouraging participation both within school and across the wider community.

Achieving the prestigious Gold Mark is a reflection of the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication shown by our pupils, staff and wider community throughout the year. It recognises the extensive range of sporting opportunities available at Cedar and our commitment to ensuring that all children can enjoy being active, develop new skills and experience the benefits of teamwork, leadership and healthy competition.

Throughout the year, pupils have participated in a wide variety of sporting events and competitions, representing Cedar with pride, determination and exemplary sportsmanship. We are particularly proud of the many young leaders, volunteers and participants who have helped make sporting events and competitions a success both within school and across Medway.

As part of the rigorous application process, schools are assessed against criteria covering participation, competition, leadership, workforce development and extracurricular clubs. Following a visit from Claire Moore of the Howard School Sports Partnership on 8 September 2026, Cedar's extensive evidence portfolio demonstrated the significant impact that sport and physical activity have across our school community.

This achievement would not have been possible without the support and dedication of so many people. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to:

  • Miss Holmes, our PE Coordinator, for her passion, leadership and commitment to physical education and school sport.
  • All Cedar staff and class teachers who continually promote active lifestyles and sporting opportunities for our pupils.
  • Thinking Schools Academy Trust for its ongoing support.
  • Cedar Friends PTFA for helping to provide opportunities and resources for our children.
  • The Howard School Sports Partnership, particularly Claire Moore, for their guidance and support.
  • The Hoo Sports Academy.
  • Chelsea Football Club.
  • Medway Council and the Mini Youth Games team.

At Cedar, we strongly believe that sport plays a vital role in developing confidence, resilience, teamwork and a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity. Receiving the Gold Mark reflects the culture we have built and our commitment to providing inclusive opportunities that allow every child to succeed.

We are incredibly proud of everyone involved and look forward to building on this success as we continue our sporting journey and work towards achieving the School Games Mark again in 2027.

Congratulations to all our pupils, staff and families on this fantastic achievement!
